Here's a little story … by Jee-Nice

This week we go back to the year 1984, its the year of the battle. Its all about the Roxannes…

So the first track "Roxanne's Revenge" came from Roxanne Shanté, which was an answer track to UTFO's "Roxanne Roxanne". The very young 14 year old Shanté wasn't happy with the UTFO lyrics about that young lady named Roxanne, so she dropped a revenge and disses UTFO as hard as she can. Marley Marl was her producer. "Roxanne's Revenge" was only played on radio and was a hit even before it was pressed on vinyl. So now the whole Roxanne battle began…

Now UTFO had to answer with another female rapper… that was The Real Roxanne, the second track! In the following year more than 100 Roxanne records were dropped but most of them weren't interesting, except the one from Sparky D with "Roxanne, You're through" (the third track), where she disses the young Shanté again. This Roxanne battle was the biggest battle of answering songs in Hip Hop history ever.

If you wanna know more about the whole roxanne battle you should check the issues 3 and 4 of Anattitude magazine and enjoy the exclusive interviews with the battle queens Roxanne Shanté and Sparky D.
